ARTIC network has published a Bundibugyo virus (BDBV) sequencing guide as the 2026 outbreak continues in the DRC and Uganda. We have compiled this for labs wishing to sequence, assemble and analyse Bundibugyo virus genomes: artic.network/viruses/bdbv/bdbv-sequencing-guide.html.

The guide covers sequencing approaches involving amplicon panels, bait capture, and metagenomics for Bundibugyo and Ebolavirus surveillance. A new BDBV-specific primer scheme (artic-bdbv-2026/400/v1.0.0) has been published and is currently undergoing testing with partners. An update to the existing pan-Ebola scheme will be released imminently. Guidance for assembling and analysing BDBV sequences is included, along with advice on sharing data through Pathoplexus, which now supports Bundibugyo virus submissions.
